Once you've grabbed your luggage from the baggage claim and exit the terminal, it's time to let romance take over on your couple's trip to Costa Rica.

If you've planned in advance, you've perhaps booked a suite at the exclusive and impressively romantic El Silencio Eco-Lodge & Spa, where each room is enshrouded in the lush tropical foliage of the rainforest and you'll appreciate the privacy it allows.
If you're the spontaneous types and want a romantic base from which to explore the country, consider having a taxi take you to the centrally located Hotel Grano de Oro in San José. There you'll find luxuriously appointed rooms with all the amenities and a rooftop deck with two jacuuzzis, plus a breathtaking view of the city.
It's the perfect place to relax together before or after dinner at the candlelit inner courtyard of Grano de Oro Restaurant. Don't forget to save room for some of their famous dessert. If you're a dancing duo, get ready to stay up late showing off your moves at Club Vertigo, Costa Rica's hottest club for cutting a rug, and cutting-edge DJs.
Take a day trip to the actively erupting Arenal Volcano where, if you're lucky, you'll see more than sparks fly from the top. Even if the weather doesn't permit a clear view, there are natural hot springs to soak in near the base.
Embark on a scenic drive (or hire transportation) through the mountains to the tiny Caribbean village of Cahuita and have lunch at the undeniably romantic Sobre las Olas; choose a table in the sand overlooking the sea, and try the mussels on the half shell with whatever bottle of wine your server suggests.
If you two are chocolate lovers, you won't want to miss the Chocolate Forest Experience in Puerto Viejo de Limon, especially the afternoon tour that wraps up just as the sun is setting over the coast. You'll see how cacao is grown in a live forest, sample its different stages, and learn much about the 'food of the gods' that just happens to be a natural aphrodisiac.
If you stay in the area, seek out the beautiful and often deserted beach of Playa Chiquita just south of town, where you can forget about everything else but each other (you can even forget about your clothes).
Book a couple's massage at El Silencio's top-notch Esencia Spa, then tuck into a 100% locally-produced meal at Las Ventanas, the lodge's perfectly romantic onsite restaurant. Before cuddling up on your cloud-top mattress, take a stroll under the stars and listen to the sounds of Costa Rica's nocturnal wildlife just waking up. Sometimes, nothing spells romance like shopping together. Pick up high-quality handmade souvenirs to commemorate your trip at Lulu Berlu Gallery in Puerto Viejo de Limon or at the tiny, but excellent Galería Namu in San José.
