Act fast and you may still find a real estate bargain in quaint College Park, where many bungalow-lined streets (Harvard, Yale, Vassar, etc.) are named for famed institutions of higher learning. Ground zero for shopping, dining and nightlife is the intersection of Princeton and Edgewater – CP’s de facto “Main Street.”
See & Do
College Park is inundated with lovely lakes. Many boast paved paths for walking and even parks with playgrounds for the kids, most notably Lake Ivanhoe and Lake Adair. Albert Park doesn’t, but makes a great, shady lunch spot. Combine lunch or dinner in College Park with a visit to one of nearby Loch Haven Park’s cultural attractions, which include the Orlando Science Center, Mennello Museum of American Art and Orlando Shakespeare Theater.
Jonesing for Japanese? Mexican? Diner fare? College Park’s diverse dining runs the gamut from creative burgers at Graffiti Junktion to Caribbean fare at Taste; this neighborhood has the culinary bases well covered. Feeling Parisian? Hit Les Petit Pleasures, a small French bakery so authentic you just might hear the chef singing en français as he prepares your crepes, croissants and café au lait.
Every neighborhood has an Irish pub; College Park’s is Scruffy Murphy’s. Traditional pub grub (boxtys to bangers) abounds, as well as a wealth of beers on tap. Including Smithwick’s. So it’s all good. At Ollie’s Public House, mixed drinks come in mason jars and Yuenglings are $2 all day, every day. Then there’s Paxia Alta Cocina Mexicana & (here’s the important part) Tequila Lounge. The blanco menu alone has roughly 80 varieties. Salud!
Athletic? At Sassy Pants you can net high-end yoga, tennis and activewear. Bohemian? Visit Beachcomber’s Bazaar for unique organic earrings made of wood, horn, bone and shell, Khussa Indian shoes and jingly glass bangles. Call ahead for an appointment and get that henna tattoo you’ve always wanted. Vintage fan? Dechoes Resale is one of Orlando’s best, whether your tastes lean retro/pin-up or you’re after impressive names like Louis Vuitton or Prada.
