Viva Mexico: Best Mexican Restaurants in the Palm Beaches

By Kristopher Neild, Travel Expert

With Palm Beach/West Palm Beach situated in South Florida, an area where the summers are hot and the food has a spice to it, it’s no wonder the craving for Mexican food can strike at any moment. When seeking out Mexican restaurants, authenticity and features like a homemade secret sauce or tortilla recipe are crucial. Consistency in flavor and service, all for a great price, also factor in to the spot that will soon become your new regular "go-to". For a restaurant that offers all of that and more, check out Torero's in the West Palm Beach. Torero's has a menu packed full of savory dishes with portions that could last you in to the next day if need be.

If a fiesta is what comes to mind when you’re on the prowl for tacos, then Rocco’s Tacos on Clematis is the best place to grab a large table with a group of friends. The lively scene is made even better by the table-side guacamole big enough to share. The restaurant boasts a full bar so feel free to indulge in a tasty margarita with salt or a stinging round of tequila. With so many great spots to choose from, it’s easy to have a favorite dish from each place on the list below.

Look for the bright sign for Rocco's Taco's & Tequila Bar on the very happening Clematis Street and you've arrived. You feel the exciting atmosphere even before you walk in. The fun and casual setting is a genuine taste of Mexico. With five locations in Florida, patrons come back again and again for the authentic food, consisting of Antojitos (soup and small plates), Ensaladas y Tortas (big salads and sandwiches), especialidades de Cocinathe (specialties), Molcajetes (their version of an authentic fajita baked and served in a lava rock bowl from Mexico), Rocco's Tacos, Enchiladas, combinaciones (combination plates), delicious guacamole prepared tableside and to sample from 225 varieties of tequila. Stop for lunch or dinner or for a late-night meal Thursday through Saturday until 1:00 a.m., and the bar closes at 2 a.m. Great place to take the kids and also for take-out.

Its vegetarian menu makes it easy to order something as flavorful as other dishes without breaking the diet. With lots of affordable entrees, including the kids section, taking the family out for a fun dinner is possible without breaking the bank.

Taqueria La Placita is a family run Mexican restaurant in Lake Worth serving up delicious tacos seven days a week. The bright colored building and screened in outdoor patio are very welcoming and aid in finding the place just off of South Dixie Highway. The food is prepared fresh, including the salsas and sauces ranging from mild to very hot. The tacos taste best, or anything that is prepared on one of their homemade tortillas. Taqueria La Placita is a great stop for a casual lunch or dinner but they also have takeout for days when the Florida sun is just too hot to eat on the patio.

The spot off of Banyan has limited seating but the staff has perfected the art of preparing food so that it tastes just as delicious in the park or back at the office. The happy hour during the week is from 4-6 PM and has three different groups meals for a special price, perfect to grab on the way home to feed the family. They also have catering opportunities for your next event where guests can create their own tacos or burritos.

Anita's Mexican Grill has been serving visitors and locals of West Palm Beach flavorful dishes for over ten years. Let's start by saying that its strip mall location off of Okeechobee does not give off the best first impression, but once you get past that the food will surely impress you. The combination plates are a great deal and the homemade sauces really make the meal complete. Open as early as 8 AM daily, it isn't hard to get the craving for flavorful Mexican food under control no matter how early it strikes. You can't go wrong ordering any of the tacos, but the chorizo tortas are worth trying at least once.

2. Lupita's Tex-Mex

Lupita's Tex-Mex is a Lake Worth gem and is absolutely worth the drive no matter where you are in the Palm Beach/West Palm Beach area. The menu has nearly 100 options to choose from, or to keep coming back for, but the real treat are the tacos. Made with only the freshest ingredients and prepared when ordered, there is a quality that is not matched anywhere in the area. Lupita's Tex-Mex also serves up breakfast all day; everyone knows that you can't go wrong with breakfast for dinner. The place gets busy in the evenings but the outdoor seating clears quickly. Even if there is a short wait, it'll be worth it.
