Tampa is a very family-oriented city, with plenty of attractions and activities to keep everyone in your group happy. If you can, make sure to allow some time before or after your cruise to sample what the city has to offer. Not sure where to start? Here is a half-day itinerary that will guarantee smiles all 'round.
One of Tampa’s greatest attractions is our wonderful climate and the opportunity it provides to enjoy being outside all year. So, we’ll begin your day at Curtis Hixon Park located in the heart of downtown on the riverfront.
This urban park is a favorite local hangout and features a large playground, fountains made for running through and plenty of seating for relaxing and enjoying the view. There’s even a dog park if you’re travelling with pets. Stretch your legs a bit and take a stroll along the Tampa Riverwalk for more views of the river and nearby cultural landmarks.

After the parents relax and the kids blow off some steam, take in one of the cultural attractions that is located on or near the park. Your kids will love visiting Glazer Children’s Museum and exploring the 170 activities designed to engage and delight children of all ages. Fly an airplane, pilot a cruise ship or build a noodle sculpture – it’s all there for you to enjoy.
If your family is a little older, you can visit the Tampa Museum of Art right next door. Opened in 2010, this state-of-the-art facility features rotating exhibits and a growing collection of modern and contemporary art. If this doesn’t appeal, try visiting the nearby Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, one of the few museums in the U.S. dedicated solely to the art of photography as central to contemporary life and culture.
By this point, the kids are getting grumpy and the adults' tummies are rumbling. What better way to fill up than with a slice of authentic New York pizza, right here in Tampa? Eddie & Sam’s New York Pizza is located only a block away from the park, and they serve up some of Tampa’s favorite pizza.
Don’t go thinking that this is an ordinary pizzeria. Eddie & Sam’s is very dedicated to producing the finest pizza that tastes just like you’d get it in New York. They are so committed to this goal that the water they use for their dough is actually shipped to them from New York. Now that’s dedication!
