A new Tampa taco restaurant is generating a lot of buzz and raising a few eyebrows for some of its menu items. Located in south Tampa, Taco Fusion prides itself on featuring unique, one-of-a-kind dishes that you can’t find anywhere else. Offerings such as the pad thai chimichanga certainly seem unusual.
They also offer a wide variety of intriguing salsa options such as raspberry, sangria and passion colada. Another rarity is the ghost pepper taco. Ghost peppers are one of the hottest chilies in the world, and just to order the taco you must be over eighteen and sign a waiver.Taco Fusion offers exotic meat tacos. What's in this taco? — Photo courtesy of Taco Fusion
But these dishes are not what people are talking about. They're talking about the items on the Safari Taco menu. These items consist of premium game meat tacos with options including lion, ostrich, rattler, gator and kangaroo (promised to put a hop in your step).
The Safari tacos are sold at market prices and some are pricey; currently the lion tacos are running $35 each, with kangaroo and ostrich running a more reasonable $14. While these tacos may not be everyone’s cup of tea, some adventurous diners have found them to be very tasty and they are selling well. The idea behind these unusual offerings is to offer people the opportunity to try different protein options that are not normally available.
The meats served at Taco Fusion are purchased from a federally regulated distributor and the animals are free range and hormone free. The produce used at the restaurant is fresh and locally sourced. You can rest assured that all ingredients used in their unique cuisine are high quality. And the owners are always looking for new ingredients to create dishes that have never been made before. What’s next? Iguana and zebra tacos.
