Sushi: Chef Fuyuhiko Ito (formerly of MF Sushi- the first time it was in Atlanta) is a master at his craft and turns out elegant presentations of sashimi, nigiri and sushi rolls. Some of the best seats in the house are at the chef's counter, so that guests can watch the master at work. The hot entrees really stand out here: the Lobster Tobanyaki, which comes drenched in miso butter and is finished at the table, cooked over a tiny grill, is a must-have. Umi also features hand-crafted cocktails, an extensive sake list (if you're unsure of what to try, ask the knowledgeable staff for a recommendation) and delicious desserts made by Ito's pastry chef wife. This tucked-away restaurant has quickly become one of Atlanta's go-to spots for visiting celebrities (including Sir Elton John, Ashlee Simpson, Liam Hemsworth and others.)
Local Expert Lesli Peterson Says:
Sushi: "There's more to this intimate, upscale restaurant than just sushi. Make sure to save room for the green tea souffle. Order it when your last savory dish arrives, as it takes about 15 minutes to prepare."
Best for Sushi Because: Fantastically fresh sushi, craft cocktails and a knowledgeable staff make Umi a must-visit for sushi-lovers.
