Sometimes we can all use a break from the hot Hawaiian sun, and a cozy rain can be a welcome change. The weather stays warm, the beaches empty out, and perhaps the best thing about a rainy day in Honolulu is that it reminds us to take advantage of the amazing indoor activities the island has to offer. From great food to deep historical and cultural experiences, it's quite easy to stay busy and have fun on rainy days in Honolulu.
If the blazing sun and dry air gives way to warm tropical rain and humid winds, follow this itinerary to keep you busy in the city and you're likely to become more enamored with the people, culture, and social scene of the place than you were before. For trips back through history, visit Queen Emma's Summer Palace in Honolulu. Here you'll get to look back in time at the age of Hawaiian monarchy, and gain insight into how the queen and her husband relaxed when they needed to escape the bustling streets of Honolulu.

To take in the culture of the native people of Hawaii, the Bishop Museum is an absolute must-see. The museum consists of a number of wings and connecting facilities, each with a different theme such as the Hawaiian Hall and the Maritime Center. The Bishop Museum could actually take several rainy days to fully explore, so it's a good idea to pick a couple that sound the most interesting to you and get deep in them if time is a consideration.

Getting cozy in a restaurant or coffee shop is always a good idea on a rainy day. Drop into Mocha Java Cafe to cozy up with a warm cup of custom made coffee and a breakfast crepe before or after shopping through Ward Center. You'll find a vast array of shops here, from unique imported jewelry to a gourmet chocolate store, not to mention top quality clothing stores.
For a truly thorough shopping experience, drop into Ala Moana Shopping Center to explore hundreds of unique shops when you won't feel guilty for passing up a beautiful beach day for some retail therapy.
For a hearty meal, some freshly brewed beer, and possibly some live music, stop by the Gordon Biersch Brewery. Right on the water, the brewery is an ideal place to listen to and watch the rain on the ocean. You can shop around Aloha Tower after the meal.
