Postcards Cafe is a dream come true for both vegetarians and seafood lovers. Sounds like a contradiction? The charming eatery, making its home in a plantation estate, doesn't offer meat or poultry but offers an abundance of locally caught seafood and locally grown produce and fruit.

Each dish is exquisite, and much of it is a gourmet take on local dishes and seafood. Think old Hawaii when considering the atmosphere, which is both classic and elegant. Vintage photographs decorate the walls along with island postcards. The vegetarian dishes could even convert diehard carnivores; they're so good that no one should turn away due to the lack of meat dishes.

Make sure to try the taro fritters and grilled fish, but don't neglect crisp salads, pastas, fish tacos and quesadillas. Accompanying sauces are inventive complements, and desserts are worth sampling, especially given their use of fresh island fruits. Postcards Cafe is a casual place. You can go in wearing your usual clothing, but it works here to dress up a bit too. Centrally located in Hanalei on the North Shore, it's a short walk to the rest of the town's shops and restaurants, as well as attractions such as Hanalei Bay and Hanalei River.
