Shopping in Kaua`i combines the best of both retail worlds - national chains are available for the bare necessities like camping needs and snorkeling and hiking gear, while small unique boutiques offer a change to pick up locally crafted art, jewelry and home decor. Most of the large retail stores can be found in busy Lihue, while the west side boast a huge number of local art galleries which appear to have a monopoly on shopping out there. The North Shore and Hanalei is also home to a number of gift and craft stores, but has a wide array of surf shops and clothing shops. In Poipu and Koloa on the South Side, you'll find a collection of high end art galleries and upscale clothing stores, along with plenty of old shops in historic buildings selling unique finds. Another hot shopping option on Kaua`i is the wide choice of outdoor farmers markets. The Sunshine Markets are located island wide offering local produce, ready to eat food, crafts clothes and jewelry. Try to bring a reusable shopping bag where ever you shop.
