Just because you don't have the budget of the Medici family doesn't mean you need to stay home and avoid all that Florence has to offer. Several hotels offer some easily walkable locations from the city center, so even though you are paying less, you'll still be able to see everything you want to.
Hotel Casci is one of the friendliest establishments you will find in Florence, and they offer a complete breakfast and are always available to answer any questions you might have. It's a short walk away from the Duomo, so you can easily find it again after a night of enjoyment and good food.
San Frediano offers a bit more opulent setting, and the building was once home to a prominent Florentine family. The rooms are large (a huge commodity in Florence) and offer a glimpse into the past and an idea of how much money these old families used to have.
When you are considering a night or two out, you might want to think about booking a room at Hotel Santa Croce near the famous piazza. Not only is it in a superb location, but you are also in the midst of the city and close to some of the best restaurants and bars.
Wherever you choose to stay, you'll want to take advantage of this beautiful city even as a budget-minded traveler.
