When it comes to food in Rome, no one knows how to eat better than Food Guru and Blogger Katie Parla. Over the years, she has pounded the pavement to give food connoisseurs and amateurs the best places to please your palate in the Eternal City. Recently, the foodie has launched Parla Food Events in order to promote local artisans and food charities. The best part about it? You can eat your hearts out while giving back to the community.
Parla has grown up around food since she was a kid in New Jersey. Her mother was a caterer and her father owned his own restaurant. Influenced by her upbringing and her passion for food drove her to start a blog in 2006 (Parla Food) for foodies like herself dedicated solely to what else? Food. From where to find eat a superb pizza margherita or devour the best braised artichokes, Parla has you covered.
Over the years, her passion for uncovering the best places to devour local staples in the Eternal City has expanded beyond writing. Now she even gives lectures and tours about food and even hosts charitable events revolving around food. The initiative is called "Parla Food Events." Her vision in creating these events was to raise money for food charities, dishing out 100% of the proceeds to each organization while promoting local artisans.
Her first event was launched in September 2011 at Rome's insanely delicious gelateria Il Gelato. It featured a gelato aperitvo where savory gelatos were served with wine. She followed that event with a wine tasting in Rome and a curated dinner in New York City. Starting in 2012, Parla plans to hold at least one charitable food event in Rome per month.
In the fall, she raised $600 for City Harvest with a charitable dinner at Porsena in NYC. She also helped raised more than €350 for A Chi Serve, a nascent organization similar to the organization City Harvest which distributes food to local church organizations. In January 2012, she's also got a Mobile Dining App for Rome coming out called Rome for Foodies, so stay tuned for this and her amazing charitable food events!
