As stately as the plantation home of imagination, this Greek Revival structure features an oak alley leading to the entrance and is a magnificent presence amid the grounds. Dating from 1839, Oak Alley was built after the planting of the oaks and was situated to maximize the approach to the home. Costumed guides offer tours, and on the grounds are a restaurant, cafe, gift shop, and blacksmith's shop. Bed-and-breakfast accommodations are available, and private functions can be accommodated as well. Midway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

"I have been a huge fan of Oak Alley Plantation for years. Despite living over an hour away, I try to make a trip at least once each year. This is one of the most beautiful places in the South, but it is also historically very significant. The staff works very hard to present an accurate re-telling of history, including Creole culture, slavery, the US Civil War and the impact of sugar cane on the region. If you come to the area, a plantation visit is a must. If you only have time to visit one historical plantation, this is the one."

WHAT I Liked:
Not only beautiful, but they work very hard to present history accurately. I would plan on setting aside at least 2 hours if you want to visit everything there is to see.WHAT I Disliked:
Not as close to New Orleans as some of the others, but worth the extra drive. If you use one of the tour companies, make sure they give you adequate time to see everything.
