The Antebellum South gets its bling on at this gracious plantation, meticulously restored and expanded by New Orleans entrepreneur Kevin Kelly, who bought the property in 2003. Situated about 45 minutes drive from New Orleans along the river, you can take a tour of the plantation, which is straight out of Gone With the Wind. There's a gorgeous allee of live oaks framing a stately white 1840 Greek Revival mansion and lush gardens to explore. Massive columns mark the wide double gallery encircling the house and unusual, hexagonal garconnieres lie to either side. The interior boasts and extensive collection of antiques and artwork as well as a stunning unsupported curved staircase. Better yet, stay in one of the newly done cottages on property - Kelly plans to build more - comfy private accommodations perfect for a romantic getaway. At the very least, have your concierge book a limo to take you out to tour Houmas House Plantation and Gardens in the afternoon, followed by dinner at Latil's Landing, an atmospheric 1770s French house that provides the perfect setting for chef Jeremy Langlois' imaginative cuisine.
