This Inn is a stately Victorian home which has served as a bed and breakfast since at least the 1960s. Located less than a mile from Berwick Academy, a prestigious independent day and former boarding school, Academy Street is a popular lodging destination come Berwick’s spring graduation season. However, it is also popular with summer vacationers seeking a more relaxed, reserved lodging experience.
The Academy Street Inn consistently satisfies both out of towners and locals alike who favor its stately, intimate atmosphere. The interior is full of rich, solid woods; hardwood flooring polished to a warm glow; and antique furnishings which harken back to a time when life was lived at a less hectic, more appreciative pace. Nice touches in this regard abound with old fashioned photographs and classic sporting equipment such as fishing poles and snowshoes decorating the walls.

They possess a wealth of knowledge about local attractions and particularly enjoy discussions about outdoor pursuits such as hiking or (no surprise here given the Inn’s very visible winter sporting motif) snowshoeing. Bedrooms continue this theme with plush, high four poster beds, comforters, and cozy lighting.
Of particular note is the Academy Street Inn’s daily breakfast. This is truly a gourmet affair with Paul aptly demonstrating his talent for cooking up hearty fare that includes everything from pancakes with crème fraiche topping to eggs and sausage. This meal is served in the Inn’s expansive dining room and it is not to be missed!
Next time you’re in the York area, be sure to give The Academy Street Inn a try for a truly satisfying bed and breakfast stay.
