One Stanley Avenue Restaurant — Photo courtesy of Mark Pechenik Chef and Owner Dan Davis of One Stanley Avenue (http://www.stanleyavenue.com) was drawn to Kingfield, Maine more than 40 years ago by his love of Alpine skiing. He purchased a historic Stanley Avenue property - a classic Victorian mansion and adjoining guest house - and opened a combined bed and breakfast / restaurant enterprise. (The property itself was originally owned by the famous Stanley family, inventors of the legendary Stanley Steamer automobile).
During ski season, Dan and his partner Susan McLaughlin operate the One Stanley Avenue Restaurant, which usually closes for the season in late March.
Upon entering this restaurant, guests are seated in the dining room and adjacent closed-in porch area of the mansion. It is an environment rich in the immaculately restored glamour and history, from its stained glass windows to rich, natural wood flooring and decorative moldings.

Chef Davis has put together a rich selection of classic, gourmet dishes with strong, Western Maine influences. Some of the menu standouts include Alluvial Chicken featuring delicately sautéed chicken with a rich white sauce, fiddleheads, juniper berries and hemlock; Mignonettes Mercurio with sautéed beef tenderloin, mushrooms, garlic, red wine and cream; and Venison Stroganoff with onions, black pepper, sour cream and mushrooms. Even the appetizers are worthy of acclaim including Smoked Maine Mussels with Dill Dressing, and Artichoke Hearts with Basil Dressing.
Each offering is full of wonderful, exquisite flavors and tastes and cooked to perfection. The recipes have varied little over the years, and have become guaranteed favorites of foodies who eagerly look forward to the restaurant’s winter season of operations.
So, the next time you're in western Maine for downhill or Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, or antiquing, treat yourself to some of the best in Maine cuisine with a visit to One Stanley Avenue.
