Dinner Lucca Style — Photo courtesy of LuccaLucca is my favorite Italian eatery in Boston's North End, and has been for years. That's quite the compliment from a girl who can't pick favorites. Really, when asked my favorite food I often respond with, "Well, it depends, do you mean dessert-summer or winter, type of pizza, seafood in the summer..." and my questioning goes on. I'm a husband's nightmare when it comes to making a reservation or purchasing a gift, and my fickle-mindedness would surely have us lose on a game show. But one thing has not changed since I've met my husband, I am always pleased with a dinner at Lucca.
A recent meal there reminded me why Lucca remains on my "must eat" list. Noticing the open windows we went in and were able to score a table for two with a view of the street that allowed us to dine while enjoying a warm New England night almost al fresco.
After a quick perusal of the menu I know a little too well, I was drawn to my favorite dish, one of the only really heavy meals I tend to order, their orecchiette pasta with fontina cheese, broccoli rabe, sausage and tomatoes. This delicious plate of gluttonous perfection is is topped with breadcrumbs and baked. When it arrives it is a sinful delight of a dish that makes you smile even as you think of the calories you'll need to burn in order to avoid packing on extra pounds. I can't say I devoured the entire dish, in fact I took quite a bit home, but I left full, fulfilled and eager for the next time I wander in.Lucca's Open Windows — Photo courtesy of Lucca
