The top clubs and dance spots in Cabo San Lucas' spirited nightlife district have several things in common: hip decor, great dance music courtesy of rotating casts of local and international DJs, upscale bottle service and VIP amenities. Also, they've got to have a willingness to cater to their clientele - celebrity and otherwise - until the wee hours of the night (or, if you prefer, morning). Relative newcomer Knotty Social Club has succeeded in this very competitive environment, not by attempting to rework the area's traditional tried and true recipe, but rather by upgrading the individual ingredients.

It all starts with the look. Knotty enjoys a privileged location at Plaza Bonita, just off the Cabo San Lucas Marina. But the club's waterfront surroundings aren't half so eye-catching - at least after dark - as the visually arresting, hipster chic decor Knotty sports courtesy of Davis Krumins.
Krumins and his wife Andrea founded the noted Southern California nightclub design firm Davis Ink. Their firm is also responsible for the signature look of acclaimed nightspots like Hollywood's Kress and Stingaree in San Diego.
The philosophy at Davis Ink is to "organize creative chaos into memorable design," and that certainly seems to encapsulate the aesthetic at Knotty. Here, indoor and outdoor settings alike evince a memorable mix of vibrant colors, shifting patterns and often disparate styles and materials. In short, the club manages to be funky, eclectic, comfortable and utterly unique.

In addition to bringing in one of the West Coast's top designers to provide a signature visual style, Knotty has also distinguished itself by becoming the first club in Baja California to feature a Funktion One sound system. The English-owned Funktion One is a pioneering producer of state-of-the-art ambisonic surround sound systems.
Of course, a sound system is only as good as the people using it, and Knotty consistently brings in top DJ talent from around the world, including Richard Beynon, Felly Soulfurious, Lucky Lou, Tom Swoon and DJ Que.
The club packs in large late-night crowds on weekends - so much so that it seems to annex the surrounding sidewalks. But Knotty also draws consistently well during the week, offering numerous theme nights and promotions, including free drinks or 2x1 specials on ladies' nights.
Knotty Social Club is now a mandatory stop for the smart set, and a worthy rival to traditional after-midnight nightclub haunts like Mandala, Pink Kitty, Baja Junkie and Squid Roe.
