You won’t hear about this unique gem from your hotel concierge. Cocina de Autor (Author’s Cuisine) is far from Cancun’s Hotel Zone, a delicious secret tucked away in Downtown. This elegant restaurant is located in a residential area in a former mansion and has only been open for a few years.
Chef Cristian Morales’ Argentinian/Pre-Hispanic/Mexican fusion restaurant has a capacity for 38 people in two sittings, lunch and dinner, Monday through Saturday. Diners feels more like house guests than customers, as Chef Morales warmly greets each party personally and also acts as sommelier.
Cocina de Autor is not a restaurant for families with small children, however it's perfect for a romantic date, business dinner or for families with older children. The ambiance is romantic and features lit candles, long draping curtains and crystal chandeliers. The restaurant also features two private dining spaces for events and outdoor seating.
The fare and presentation are exceptional. Entrées run between 20 and 50 USD. The rack of venison is a standout, along with the lobster carpaccio, salmon with mole poblano and huilacoche (corn smut) ravioli. To taste a bit of everything, the degustation menu of seven dishes (about 65 USD) is recommended.
Chef Morales has been recognized by the Culinary Association of Mexico and the World Association of Chefs Societies for quality, innovation, originality and aggrandizement of the culinary arts in Mexico.
"We want to serve you the way you deserve to be served. The reception sets the tone. We strive to provide an elegant experience inspired by flavors, colors, shades and fragrances,” says Morales.
A meal at Cocina de Autor will be a highlight of your vacation that you won’t soon forget.
