It's also hard to beat Wolfgang's Restaurant, which serves just what you're looking for when you're in the market for a great Breakfast.

7 Bagel Beanery
A great place to grab a quick cup of joe and a bagel before starting the daily grind, the Bagel Beanery is a staple for Heritage Hill residents. From delicious sandwiches (your choice of bacon, ham, or sausage topped with scrambled eggs and served on a bagel) to a simple tomato-basil bagel covered with your choice of cream cheese, this breakfast joint offers just the right tag-team partners for its fabulous gourmet coffees. At lunchtime, the menu switches a bit, offering a tasty selection of hot and cold sandwiches and soups. Drive-through is available. Additional location at 2845 Breton Street SE (616-245-4220). (616-235-7500)

6 Blue Plate Restaurant & Lounge
An impressive breakfast buffet is the star at this restaurant, whose windows overlook an attractive courtyard area behind the hotel. From scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausages to Belgian waffles, biscuits and gravy, and fresh fruit, the Blue Plate's buffet suits all types of early morning appetites. An à la carte menu is available as well, offering comfort foods and the likes of a ham-and-cheese scramble and their signature Belgian waffles covered with fresh fruit, syrup, and butter. (616-242-6000)

5 Sundance Grill
This Southwestern-themed treasure has been spoiling Grand Rapids since the '80s. Both the lunch and breakfast menus bear a distinctive lilt — with flavors enhanced by the likes of tequila, green chilies, jalapeños, and black beans. Wise breakfast options include one of their scrumptious Sundance scrambles — the Morning Star with mushrooms, bacon, and diced tomatoes, or the Popeye with spinach and mushrooms. If you like, you can go with classic eggs Benedict or an Arizona-style huevos rancheros omelet. If the opportunity presents itself, the Sundance mimosas come highly recommended by regulars. There's another location on Grand Rapids' east side at 5755 28th Street SE (616-956-5644). (616-776-1616)

4 Wolfgang's Restaurant
Home to some of Grand Rapids' heartiest breakfasts, Wolfgang's features a daily menu with buttermilk pancake stacks, huge omelets, fruit-stuffed crêpes, and classic eggs Benedict. While the restaurant's interior may not be much to write home about — standard tables and booths, a casual, diner-like setting — there's a certain coziness that goes along with knowing that you'll be well-fed like all the locals who stop here regularly. Best of all, you won't empty your pocketbook when you pay your bill. (616-454-5776)

3 Gaia Cafe
One of the east side's trendier lunch and dessert destinations, Gaia is a favorite with the cool neighborhood crowd. A small gallery area promotes the work of local artists (many of them from the neighborhood), and the skilled kitchen staff makes sure that the artsy clientele always has plenty of hot food, homemade sweets, and fresh gourmet coffee to enjoy while they pass the time chatting about the latest film, book, or play to hit the scene. A fabulous juice bar and several vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, too. (616-454-6233)

2 Bentham's Riverfront Restaurant
Boasting an inspiring view of the Grand Rapids River, this Amway Grand restaurant is a favorite with hotel guests and locals alike thanks to its first-class service, casual atmosphere, reasonable prices, and top-notch cuisine. Breakfast is a serious affair, with patrons enjoying everything from freshly squeezed juices and cereals topped with fresh seasonal berries to one of Bentham's hearty specialty breakfasts, which include Traditional Eggs Benedict with hash browns, Old Fashioned Corned Beef Hash, and a French Toast Sandwich (two eggs any style and maple-cured ham between two pieces of cinnamon-swirl French toast). Reservations are not required. (616-774-2000)

1 Cornucopia
The Amway Grand offers guests a quick breakfast alternative at its classic deli, where Starbucks coffee, homemade pastries, and fresh-baked breads provide plenty of tasty pick-me-ups for the early riser in you. Lunchtime sees this aptly-named eatery serve up a hodge-podge of hot and cold options, from paninis and gourmet pizzas to soups and chili. Take out is available. (616-774-2000)
