Breakfast and brunch in Reno can range from a quick bite of pastry and coffee at a coffeehouse (like the popular Coffeebar near Midtown) or a luxury Sunday brunch buffet at Silver Legacy's Sterlings. In between you have a wide range of classic cafes and diners that will fill you up for the entire day. Several restaurants in the Reno area have been featured on the Food Network including Dish Cafe & Catering and Squeeze In. Check out the many omelettes at the Squeeze In and the fresh local food at both Dish and Great Full Gardens. If you just need a quick hit of caffeine, Homage near Downtown has a huge menu of coffee and loose leaf tea as well as some excellent lattes and My Favorite Muffin will put a spin on the typical bagel. If you want to go without dinner, check out Peg's Glorified Ham & Eggs in Downtown for their colossal breakfast and lunch dishes.
Homage Bakery & Coffeehouse
Homage is located in a darling house near downtown and features coffee drinks, loose leaf teas, breakfast pastries and lunch items. Pick up one of Homage's croissants, pastries or danishes with dark chocolate, almond or fruit. The savory croissants include cheese, herb, bacon and fresh veggies and can be enjoyed on the front porch or the garden. For lunch you can enjoy a salad like the Quinoa & Squash ($8) with acorn squash, dried tart cherries, roasted almonds, chevre, arugula and honey-mustard balsamic vinaigrette or a French dip sandwich ($9) with roast beef, horseradish aioli, caramelized onions, Swiss cheese on a ciabatta. Great Full Gardens
Great Full Gardens Cafe & Eatery in Midtown Reno offers a casual and healthful menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner and a full coffee, beer and wine menu. The restaurant features items from local farms, vendors and their own greenhouse. The menu also caters to vegan, gluten-free and Paleo diets. For breakfast, try one of the Liege Belgian style waffles with fruit or eggs. The Elvis Liege waffle has bacon, sliced bananas and peanut butter drizzled with honey. For lunch or dinner Chef/Owner Gino's Totally Tomato soup goes well with the Paleo Lunch Bowl ($12.99-$14.99) with grilled chicken or wild salmon on a bed of kale, onions, broccoli, mushrooms and cabbage, sauteed in organic coconut oil. As the office space for much of Reno's hipster and business crew, Coffeebar knows how to cater to busy people. While they specialize in coffee, they also have some great pastries, quiche, seasonal crepes and panini sandwiches. Coffeebar has several locations, but the Mount Rose location has tons of seating including an outdoor area with lots of shade. Breakfast and lunch dishes include the Apple Apricot Veggie Panini with fresh apple, dried apricot and roasted garlic-thyme chutney over a brie-cream cheese spread with fresh arugula and a balsamic reduction on Coffeebar's daily baked ciabatta. Kimmie's Coffee Cup
Kimmie's Coffee Cup is a far cry from your typical coffee shop. This warm and welcoming place has some of the best breakfast and lunch food in the area and it's served by the lovely ladies of Kimmie's. Everything is made to order and they offer several signature dishes including country style sausage patties. The breakfasts include items like Polish Sausage and Eggs, Chicken Fried Steak, Cowboy Steak and Eggs and Eggs Benedict. They also serve up excellent pancakes and waffles including Blueberry and Chocolate Chip Pancakes and a tasty Cinnamon Vanilla French Toast. The Stone House Cafe
What really makes Reno's The Stone House stand out is their beautiful outdoor dining space and historical stone building, but this place is still for casual dining. The family run restaurant features fresh ingredients and every soup and sauce is made from scratch. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served every day as well as a fun happy hour with $5.50 small plates and cocktails.
Menu items include the Stone House Crab Cakes with saffron lemon sauce ($14.99), the Spinach and Apple Salad ($10.25) or the odd, but delicious PB&J Bacon Burger ($13.75) with peanut butter, ligonberry jelly, smoked apple wood bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and red onions. ((775) 284-3895)
My Favorite Muffin and Bagel Café
This local favorite in the CalAve District serves not only the best bagel sandwiches in the area, but also homemade pastries and muffins and Brewster's coffee. Try the classic Breakfast Sandwich with your choice of fresh bagel, egg whites, provolone cheese, tomato and turkey sausage. The Lox & Cream Cheese and the Breakfast B.L.T. include the protein you need. Lunch sandwiches include the Kick-n Roast Beef with roast beef, horseradish sauce, lettuce and tomato and the Big Apple Club has ham, turkey, bacon, American cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomato. Sterlings Seafood & Steakhouse
Sterlings in the Silver Legacy is a great place to have a special dinner and their Sunday Brunch buffet is probably the best in town. The menu includes items such as Escargot, New England Clam Chowder, French Onion Soup, Porterhouse Steak with Peppercorn Sauce and Desserts like Creme Brulee. The dinners will run about $40-$50 per person.
The restaurant is elegant and the seating is booth style that is very private and great for couples or small groups. The Sunday Brunch is fantastic with seafood, steak and poultry specialties, an omelet station, a wonderful selection of breads and pastries and some wonderful fruit and desserts.The Sunday brunch (non-holiday) is about $25 per person. Peg's Glorified Ham & Eggs
This is where the locals go for a huge breakfast that will last you way into the evening. Peg's is a popular coffee and breakfast spot that is well know for its huge portions, excellent staff and fun selection various items including stacks of pancakes, skillet meals and Latin inspired dishes.
Favorite menu items include the Huevos Ranchero served in a skillet with fresh salsa, beans, hash browns and fruit or the Mexicali Omelette with guacamole and salsa. For something lighter you can order the huge portion of Lox, Bagel and Cream Cheese or a Veggie Benedict. Their classes Eggs Benedict is excellent as well as the their French Toast and Pancakes. Dish Cafe & Catering
This colorful little cafe near Downtown Reno not only serves a dynamo breakfast, but their lunch options are huge. Along with homemade soups and salads like the Fabuloso ($9) with warm brie cheese on Ciabatta toast, apples, pecans and white balsamic vinaigrette dressing the cafe (and their award winning catering) has some great sandwiches.
Try the Eat at Joe's Sandwich ($8.95) with turkey and bacon from local farms, Dijon mustard and Swiss. The Humdinger ($8.95) for vegetarians has hummus, cucumber, roasted peppers, carrots and Dijon mustard. Dish also serves warm Panini's like the Cowgirl which was featured on the Food Network. Squeeze In has several locations in the area including Reno and Truckee. This casual breakfast and lunch spot has some massively huge omelettes as well as classic breakfasts, sandwiches, salads and some great coffee and mimosas. Their fun omelettes come with various cheese sauces and salsas and include the Shake & Bake with black olives, avocado, Monterey Jack cheese and salsa and the Lake Taco with ground beef, red onions, peppers and sour cream. Try the crazy Zweifel with peanut butter and bananas. The various eggs benny dishes come with different ingredients like the Bacon Benny with mushroom in a wine sauce. (775-853-6090)
