10 Oakwood Café
Family-owned and -operated, this little café in downtown Raleigh has been serving authentic Argentinean and Cuban food since 1999. Brigs Great Beginnings offers some of the area's best breakfast fare. If you have a hankering for a traditional Southern-style breakfast, this is the place to go! 8 Cary Café

7 Mecca
Since 1930, this family-owned downtown eatery has served some of the best burgers and country-style meals in the area. Hearty Southern breakfasts include eggs and grits, biscuits, cheese toast, and good coffee. If you are coming here for lunch, plan to arrive before noon or after 2pm to avoid the crowds. 6 42nd Street Oyster Bar
One of the most popular restaurants in the Triangle, 42nd Street features live music Thursday-Saturday, packing in a crowd of eager twenty- and thirty-somethings. The food is great of course, with lots of appetizers, salads and sandwiches for lighter appetites, but plenty of fried stuff to help sop up some of the alcohol. 5 Winston's Grille
Winston's Grille, near the North Ridge Country Club, offers a traditional American grill menu. The atmosphere at this North Raleigh restaurant is casual, and after one look at the menu, you'll agree that their eclectic selection can handle just about any appetite. Mahi-mahi, salmon, t-bone, and blackened chicken alfredo are among some of the favorites. Vegetarian options are also available. 4 P.F. Chang's China Bistro
This restaurant is great for pre- or post-shopping meals. Inside, you'll find a dimly lit dining area reminiscent of a Hong Kong nightclub, with stone statues and dark, earthy colors. As for the menu, chicken with lettuce wraps and the spare ribs are excellent, and the tasty Cantonese chicken arrives at your table accompanied by Mandarin pancakes and scallions. 3 Glenwood Grill
Accommodating staff and artful, tasty dishes make Glenwood Grill a safe bet for almost any occasion. The new Southern cuisine showcases the kitchen talent with entrees such as shrimp and grits and sirloin steak with pimiento cheese complimented with appetizers of crab cakes, she crab soup, and fried green tomatoes. 2 Margaux's Restaurant
Funky light fixtures and vibrant, abstract art accents the interior of this popular restaurant, and the creativity doesn't end with the décor. Diners feast on novel creations such as grilled wahoo over stir fried baby bok choy, lobster, crab & shitake mushrooms with red coconut lime sauce. A $28 menu offers three delightful courses, from marinated artichoke hearts stuffed with goat cheese to petit filet en croute to tres leche cake with strawberries. 1 The Pit
Housed in a former warehouse, this winning kitchen offers a wide range of delicacies in a laid-back atmosphere and desirable downtown location. Start off with a cup of Brunswick stew or the spinach salad topped with strawberries, goat cheese, fried green tomatoes and red pepper vinaigrette. For the main course dig into the pulled pork shoulder, baby back ribs, beef brisket or if you can't decide, go for the double combo and pick two selections. Make sure to leave room for the banana upside-down cake with candied pecans and wild turkey ice cream. Soak in the sounds of the night with the libation of your choice, or chill on the outdoor patio.
