Bike riding is a large part of Portland culture so if you have some time available to go on a bike ride through Portland do it. Most hotels have bike rentals as well as many bike companies throughout the city, or just bring your own bike. If you are not comfortable venturing out on your own then join in on a bike tour of Portland. There are many companies that offer bike tours. With over 200 miles of bike lanes and trails there is literally nowhere that you cannot get to by bicycle.
If you are limited for time you will want to take a scenic bike ride that will give you a taste of Portland's beauty and food. Start out somewhere along Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Here you can enjoy views of the river as you basically make a loop. On Saturday and Sunday the Portland Saturday Market is here on the north end of the park under the Burnside Bridge. You will definitely want to stop and check it out. Here you will find to fountains that kids can play in on a warm day. Also, if you are hungry for breakfast or a snack you can bike over to Voodoo Doughnuts one street over without going too far of course.
Once you are done checking out the market and grabbing a doughnut continue north to the Steel Bridge. You will want to cross over the river here on the Steel Bridge then get on the Springwater Trail and head south. As you head south you get to enjoy amazing views of downtown.
If you want to grab a cup of coffee during your ride stop by Water Avenue Coffee Company not far from the Springwater Trail on Taylor Street towards the west. If you are not in the mood for coffee but still want a drink then head next door to the Bunk Bar instead.
Cross back over the water on the Hawthorne Bridge, but not before grabbing some lunch at one of the eateries on Hawthorne Boulevard. Lardo is one of the most popular places to have a sandwich in Portland. The sandwich creations are always interesting and always tasty. If you want to bike further keep going down Hawthorne towards the Waffle Window for a unique snack. There are tons of restaurants along this street including food carts. You are guaranteed to find whatever you are in the mood for at any price.
Once you have crossed over the Hawthorne Bridge you are back at Waterfront park and this short bike tour is done.
