It's easy to spend a full day shopping along Portland's beautiful and historic Mississippi Avenue, which offers a different shop every few steps.
Here, you'll find an array of independently owned shops selling clothes, books, decor, bitters, antiques, salts, comics and literally everything in between.

For the most part, the shops don't open early. Instead, they open at 11 a.m., which is when all the eateries open. The exception is The Meadow, which opens at 10 a.m.
The Meadow sells artisanal chocolates and salts from around the world. You can even buy blocks of salt here.
They also have a nice selection of bitters and fresh-cut flowers. The Meadow is extremely close to Blue Star Donuts – the perfect place to enjoy a gourmet donut and kill some time if you happen to arrive on Mississippi Avenue to early to shop.

Next door to The Meadow is an incredible comic book store, Bridge City Comics. They have Dark Horse, DC Comics, Image Comics and Marvel comics, too. Here, you'll find bargains like old and new comics for as low as $1.
Bridge City Comics gets new comics in every Wednesday at 11 a.m. If you have old graphic novels or comics you no longer read, then you can exchange them for store credit.
They also carry local comics, collecting supplies, apparel and random items like little strange looking unicorns.
Across the street as you head north, you'll come across Gumbo, an extra colorful shop packed full of all kinds of odds and ends. This would be a great place to pick up a real gift like a crochet hat or a gag gift like an elephant hat.
They have a quirky selection of cards near the back, jewelry, toys and crazy socks.

As you continue strolling north, you'll come across a fair trade store called PDXChange. Everything you find inside of this store, whether sourced locally or internationally, has been acquired compassionately through trusted companies. They offer jewelry, accessories, creative art pieces, hand-crafted fabrics and interesting home décor and furnishings.
Next door to PDXhange is Half Pint, a small vintage boot shop with an excellent selection of boots for men, women and kids. They also have vintage belts and purses. If you love leather, you'll love Half Pint.
There are quite a few more shops found on Mississippi Avenue, but these offer a taste of the goods. Enjoy your day of shopping, and why not find a new favorite boutique?
