Kennedy School — Photo courtesy of Kennedy SchoolThe Kennedy School, one of McMenamins' most popular properties located in Northeast Portland, has recently gone through a multimillion dollar renovation. An entire new two-story wing has been added to the old school building from 1915. Called the English Wing, the additional space holds 22 new guestrooms. This brings the total number of rooms offered to 57.
All of the new rooms located in the English Wing feature a king bed, complimentary wireless internet, telephone and a private bathroom. Each room has been inspired by a piece of literature and themed accordingly. The various themes of the rooms go with one of 22 books they selected, including the Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien and The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
Several of the room themes are inspired by the books of local authors. And each space includes custom artwork based on the book as well as hand-painted furniture.
All stays here include complimentary coffee each morning, and admission to the heated soaking pool and theater. Pets are still allowed to stay at the hotel, but not in any of the new rooms in the English Wing. Like all McMenamins hotels, the Kennedy School is quirky, fun, and none of the rooms have a TV.
