After being purchased by Provenance Hotels two years ago and undergoing an exceptional six-million-dollar renovation, The Governor Hotel in downtown Portland, Oregon, is now officially Sentinel Hotel.
Sentinel offers an urban sanctuary at their boutique hotel. They have 100 updated rooms and suites in a killer location, the revitalized West End at 614 SW 11th Avenue.
Rooms have been freshly painted colors like emerald green and feature linen pillows. The light fixtures are from Portland’s Schoolhouse Electric. Many rooms have a working fireplace, and a few have outdoor rooftop balcony patios.
Sentinel did not stop the remodel at the rooms. They have also updated ballrooms and meeting spaces, bringing them back to their original splendor with dazzling crystal light fixtures, plush carpeting and gold leaf gilt ceilings. Sentinel has a fitness room as well.

Like all Provenance Hotels, Sentinel features an art collection. This collection focuses on black and white photos of visionaries who impacted the world. One notable picture is Martin Luther King Jr., just moments after he delivered his speech "I Have a Dream."
Sentinel is made up of two historic buildings: Seward Hotel - built in 1909 - is now Sentinel's east wing and the Temple of Portland Elks Lodge No. 142 - built in 1923 - is now Sentinel's west wing.
Jake’s Grill, a popular restaurant located in the lobby, is staying. The Starbucks on-site is no longer just a coffee shop; it is a Starbucks Evenings, which offers beer and wine after 4 p.m. This is one of the only two Starbucks Evenings in Portland.
Sometime this spring, the new lobby will debut a brand new bar, Jackknife. The bar is being developed by the owners of Bye and Bye and promises to by stellar.
Sentinel features all the plush amenities expected from a Provenance Hotel property, including 24-hour room service, a pillow bar, luscious bathroom, array of spiritual books available and iPods pre-programmed with your choice of music.
You can also have locals' favorite Salt & Straw ice cream delivered right to your room, saving you from standing in a long line just to try some. Other local amenities include Portland Roasting's coffee and Smith teas in your room.
For those bringing along their beloved pet, you will be happy to know that your pet will be pampered as well. Pet pampering includes a pet bed, bowls, loaner toys and a tasty treat. There is a special room service menu just for dogs, with nutritional options.
