This European-influenced restaurant has an amazing wine list and an elaborate menu, making it ideal for special occasions and celebrations. The sommelier makes excellent suggestions for wines that go with each course. Dishes may include local trout with mushroom stuffing, grilled free-range chicken with corn and sausage in Riesling sauce, and sautéed duck breast with wild mushrooms and port wine sauce. The fresh seafood is delivered daily. Tavern on the Hill is a must for lovers of fine wine and elegant cuisine.

Although the food was good, my experience at Tavern on the Hill was not exceptional. It was Valentine's Day and the little tables were crammed into the little room...we felt like cattle lined up in a barn. You could hear EVERYTHING the couples next to us were saying. I barely wanted to talk during dinner for this reason. Also, my wine carafe was broken and there were two huge chips on my plate. We were offered free dessert to compensate for the broken wine caraffe but it didn't make up for the fact that there were NO alternatives on the menu for someone who didn't eat steak, veal, or seafood. I was looking for a veggie dish or pasta and asked the waitress. Her reply was to order the veggie side dishes. I probably would not go back there again since there are so many other nice restaurants out there who are more accommodating. Sorry!

If you're comparing this place to "fine dining", Harrisburg style, than it's going to be above average. If you have a pallet that can recognize any aspect of proper flavor and good cooking (by a chef who knows anything about creative cooking and culinary originality), then avoid, as with most Harrisburg area restaurants. Extremely over priced, given quality of atmosphere and culinary expertise. Not bad if you're looking for the best in the area and want an acceptable ambiance (ie - w/o the 20 something's "wanna be successful businessmen" and "40+ year old putz politician looking to cheat on their wives crowd" and "wanna be successful restaurant investor mogul" crowd restaurants of downtown Harrisburg...this means you...Mr. Lamborghini, everyone knows it's a KIT, Car Guy).

I barely give this place 1 star...They lost our reservation, took an hour and a half to give us our food only to find hair in it. Then, the owner was "too busy" to speak with us. WORST dining experience ever, take this advice and never go there!
