There's a new-ish, apparel company in Philadelphia. Ordinarily, this wouldn't be such big news, except for the fact that this company isn't just selling clothes. It's also selling coffee.
Still not big enough news for you? How about the fact that this company is also a huge champion of the environment and has promised to clean up one pound of trash from area waterways for every item sold in its Old City store. Got your attention now, huh?

When United By Blue company founder Brian Linton graduated from Temple University, he decided that he wanted to create a company whose business model included environmental responsibility. He knew that people liked to take care of their planet, and often did so by donating money when they purchased things.
His idea took that donating to a new level, however, by promising not only to talk the talk, but actually walk the walk. Linton and the employees at United By Blue, as well as volunteers, make it a point to actually go out and clean up the water in and around Philadelphia and other areas of the country.
Lakes, rivers, creeks and even the Atlantic Ocean benefit from the efforts of this apparel company. Since 2010, they have done cleanups in 21 states.
When Hurricane Sandy devastated the Northeast in 2012, efforts led by United By Blue helped clear trash from the ocean. Since then, they have continued to help keep the water in the Philadelphia area clean and healthy.
It's Linton's philosophy that water unites us all. It's the most plentiful thing on our planet, and something we should be proud to care for. Through his efforts, that is exactly what is happening. A complete line of apparel was designed after the hurricane, and all of the profits from its sales went to area relief.
If the environmentally responsible angle doesn't get you, the comfort, style and attractiveness of the clothing and bags will surely sway you to stop in and browse.
United By Blue sells items for men, women and pets, as well as items for the home and outdoor use. Not all of it is blue, but there's a definite color preference here to dovetail with their eco-theme.
There's an emphasis on comfort, and they even offer a few accessories and beauty products to boot. It's a wonderful place to pick up an item for that crunchy, caring, earthy friend of yours who'll love the fact that her gift also helped clean the water.
Drop by for a coffee, buy a shirt and even volunteer if you'd like. Or simply revel in the fact that your purchase is going further than someone else's bank account.
What a great feeling.
