It's unusual to stock wine from only one region but as the name suggests, this chic little bar specialises in wines exclusively from northern Portugal's fertile Douro Valley. Pedro Gouveira has handpicked the 50 or so different reds, whites and rosés, a select choice that's complemented by an equally tantalising range of port and Madeira wines. Interestingly, they mix a unique cocktail made with port called "Portsberry". Their Letra artisan beers also tempt the palate. But make no mistake, this is a place devoted to the grape, and there are some wonderful wines to sample. During the hot summer months the whites tend to take centre stage, and the fresh and elegant Vale da Poupa is required drinking. It's also Pedro's favourite tipple. Among the reds it's the Quinta Vale d'Aldeia that is often recommended. Bebedouro makes a point of working with lesser-known wine producers and spending an evening here is to discover some truly remarkable labels. Bar manager Pedro Ferreira is on hand to point you in the right direction. Carla Soares is responsible for the fashionable boutique design signature: the huge mirrored wall and mood lighting creates a contemporary but homely ambiance. In a nod to tradition however, the mid--19th-century wooden framed façade has been lovingly restored and can be admired from tables set across the terrace. A menu of delicious tapas-style petiscos features platters of hams, cheeses and gourmet seafood. But for a real treat, order the Francesinha, a delicious medley of meats and sausage.
