As a college town, Columbia has its fair share of inexpensive sandwich shops, coffeehouses, take-out counters and burger joints, many of which are very good. But luckily, you don't have to look too hard for a more upscale Columbia, SC restaurant experience. Some of the best bets for American and Southern cuisine are Hennessy's, Motor Supply Company, Solstice Kitchen and Wine Bar, Terra, Ruth's Chris, Mr. Friendly's and Saluda's. For seafood Blue Marlin is tops, and for Italian Dianne's on Devine or Al's Upstairs are proven winners. Sushi is slowly making inroads here — give Inakaya, Saky or Tsunami a try. Fantastic after-dinner treats can be found at Goatfeathers, Nonnah's and Cool Beans.
