Barcelona might not make the list for those looking for an intimate and romantic getaway; however, there are plenty of reasons why it should be strongly considered. Even though it's largely known for its cheap pitchers of sangria, beach going, siesta enjoying and party-every-night atmosphere, the city has an incredible number of quaint and intimate restaurants, beautiful lookout points and romantic activities for new couples, honeymooners or those looking to celebrate a special anniversary.
To kick off this romantic itinerary, start with breakfast at one of the nicer chiringuitos along the beach (depending on the time of year). The W Hotel has an exceptionally nice beachside restaurant, and if you go early enough, it's quiet and relaxing and a special way to start the day as you sit on the Mediterranean sand, staring at the sea.
After breakfast, take a stroll along the boardwalk and head into the Born neighborhood. Not only is this barrio known for its boutique shops and more upscale flare, but it has a host of cute and romantic wine and tapas bars.
This is a fun neighborhood to walk around hand in hand, window browsing on Passeig Del Born, stopping for a coffee or herbal tea or visiting the striking Santa Marta Cathedral. It's also close to Park Ciutadella, which should be the next stop on the list.

Park Ciutadella is not just an ordinary park. It's home to beautiful architecture and a peaceful water fountain, as well as a small man-made lake where you can feed the ducks. This is a very romantic place to go for a walk, and when you come out on the other end, you'll see Arc De Triomf - a large archway built for the Barcelona Universal Exposition in 1888.
If you’ve had enough of the Old City, hop on the metro or take a quick taxi ride up to Park Guell. Gaudi’s Park is a gorgeous maze of intricate architectural structures and boasts one of the greatest panoramic views of Barcelona. If you like picnics, this is a beautiful spot to set up shop on the grass, soak in the sun and listen to the buskers strumming on their guitars.
Once the sun sets and it's time for dinner, head to Mirablau restaurant atop Tibidabo. This bar/restaurant is one of the most romantic places in the city, with breathtaking views and delicious food. This is the perfect way to end a wonderfully romantic day in Barcelona.
