In a culture that doesn't really 'do' breakfast, finding a cheesy omelet, hash-browns and a side of bacon is often hard to come by in Barcelona. There are however, a few rare gems who understand the greasy and the gourmet breakfast; as long as you know where to look there are plenty of options available. Although most Barcelona restaurants don't open their doors before 10, there are some who have capitalized upon the 8am crowd and these are usually the best places to dine.
A few notable Breakfast locales include those in the Raval and Poble Sec neighborhoods. Located slightly off the beaten path these 'barrios' aren't filled with tourists, yet their quality breakfast menus attract the masses at all hours of the day. Federal, in Poble Sec serves breakfast all day on Sunday and with their three stories and a rooftop terrace, it's one of the most popular places to enjoy an early morning mimosa or an extra large 'americano' coffee.
In the Raval neighborhood right next door, Teresa Carles has proved to be more than just a high quality vegetarian restaurant and is in fact a breakfast haven. One of the only places in the city that serves fresh fruit and three-cheese omelets, this is an excellent choice for Barcelona's early birds.
