A new exhibit at the Cerralbo Museum, the noble 19th century mansion turned museum, celebrates the work of Spain’s 50 best fashion designers from the last 25 years under the title “Fashion Is a Dream: 25 Years of Spanish Talent”(in Spanish: “La moda es sueño. 25 años de talento español”).The creative and elegant clothes are displayed on mannequins set amidst sumptuous 19th century rooms and full suits of armor; the effect is whimsical and stylish, like the setting of a high-fashion photo shoot.[PHOTO_218758]
The Spanish designers and firms featured include: Sybilia, Loewe, Adolfo Dominguez, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Manuel Piña, Jesus del Pozo, Devota y Lomba, Davidelfin and Maya Hansen.
“Fashion Is a Dream” starts with pieces from international Spanish referents like couturier Cristobal Balenciaga and shoe designer Manolo Blahnik as well as classic fashion designers like Pedro Rodríguez and Elio Berhanyer. The exhibit progresses to the jewels of Spanish fashion in the 1980s and ends with a fresh look at Spain’s biggest and newest fashion designers. Women’s fashion is well represented but you will see some men’s fashion here, too.
The exhibit “Fashion Is a Dream: 25 Years of Spanish Talent” is on display at the Cerralbo Museum until January 13, 2013.
