Odd Duck, the hot new restaurant just opened in the burgeoning South Lamar district, is already packed with enthusiastic supporters. Head Chef Bryce Gilmore is no stranger to the Austin restaurant scene. Born and raised in the city, he started another successful restaurant in the same district called Barley Swine in December 2010.
Gilmore's latest endeavor features a diverse list from the local farms and vendors they source from, a creative list of cocktails - Moscow Mule made from their own in-house ginger beer - and a beer list featuring local brews.
Some of the best dishes include the chicken-fried egg and the baked sweet potato with yogurt, peanuts and cilantro. Both are rich, and diverse in their flavor profiles.
Gilmore learned to cook from his father Jack Gilmore. Jack is another well-renowned chef in town and owner of Jack Allen's Kitchen. Jack Allen's has steadily gained a local reputation for being one of the best places to partake of Sunday brunch.
