8 El Interior
This is most probably the best place in Austin to browse for Latin folk art, including Oaxaxan ceramics and an incredible array of hand-woven fabrics. (512-474-8680)

7 Allens Boots
Located just south of the Congress Street Bridge is this Texas icon, which specializes in Western wear, and oh yes, those fabulous, authentic boots. Giddy-up partner...this is not your urbanized version of cowboy gear, but the real McCoy. Look for brands like Lucchese, Justin, Tony Lama, and Frye. (512-447-1413)

6 Suzie D's
Suzie D's features fine women's fashions and accessories and is well worth the 15-mile trip from Austin. Sue DeBree, formerly of Estee Lauder and Ann Taylor, offers unique designs in lovely fabrics from her favorite designers. The knowledgeable staff is a boon, and prices aren't outrageous either. You'll find everything from casual wear to ensembles for dressier occasions. (512-263-0329)

5 Garden Room
This reputable boutique features top designers like Charles Nolan, Lynn Ritchie and Lauren Vidal. It also features an impressive selection of contemporary shoes, handbags, and jewelry, as well as fragrances by Antonia's Flowers. (512-458-5407)

4 By George

3 Oat Willie's
If you haven't already realized it when visiting the city, know that Austin, to this day, relishes the long-gone age of peace, free love, and — in this case — Oat Willie. The former hippie once ran for US president, and his T-shirts are now collectors' items. Comic books, videos, toys, jewelry, and "Deadhead" clothing abound at this shop. (512-482-0630)

2 Capra & Cavelli
This clothing boutique boasts a wealth of well-known, high-quality brands for both men and women. Not only will you find classic designs but an emphasis on personal service as well. Merchandise ranges from office to casual attire, and representative lines include Brighton, Lucky Brand, Canali, Trafalgar and Cole Haan. Highly regarded in town and nationwide. (512-450-1919)
