Located southwest of the Dallas metropolitan area, the small town of Granbury is the perfect spot for a day trip! Lake Granbury is situated near the center of town, and this 30-mile long haven features water sports, scuba diving, fishing and a swimming beach. Visitors can also take a cruise on the Granbury Riverboat, which travels along the Brazos River that feeds into the lake. History buffs will have a good 'ole time in the historic Granbury Square, which has several spots found in the National Historic Registry, including the historic Granbury courthouse and the Granbury Opera House. There are also several restaurants and antique shops, as well as a storefront for a local winery, in this main area.
Take the kids to an authentic drive-in movie theater while in Granbury! Called the Brazos Theater, this fun spot features pricing by the car load and double features. Go early to get a good spot and don't forget to bring cash, as it does not accept credit cards. Families can also mosey over to Glen Rose, which features Dinosaur Valley Park, a park that has life-sized dinosaur replicas and well-preserved real dinosaur tracks. Where to Eat
Your trip will simply not be complete without partaking in some mouthwatering Texan home cooking. Babe's Chicken Dinner House features family-style dining and specializes in fried chicken, chicken tenders and chicken fried steak. The Brazos Smokehouse in the town square features Texan barbecue cuisine. Hank's on the Square is also a fine choice, and it has some of the best desserts in town - don't miss the Dr. Pepper cake.
How to Get There
Granbury is situated halfway between the city of Ft. Worth and Stephenville. Dallas visitors can take 1-30 West and then U.S. 377 South to get there. It will take around 45 minutes to an hour to get to Ft. Worth and then another 45 minutes to get to Granbury.
