Hot Rod is the latest from nightlife design mogul Ashley Sutton, of Iron Fairies and Fat Gutz fame, who has now returned with a Thai tapas bar and gastro-pub that serves up some large and tasty tapas portions at reasonable prices, which is actually a bit of a novelty for this part of town. There is a tuk tuk parked in the garden outside, and the inside is composed of one large circular open-kitchen table, and surrounded by foliage that would be at home in an Indiana Jones flick. It's a fun spot to dig in to plates of gai tod nam prik som (fried chicken with holy basil and chilli tomato relish) or tom yum haeng seekrong moo baby back ribs with lemongrass and galanga while you sip a You Don't Know Jack made with dark rum, coconut liqueur, jackfruit, pineapple juice and Singha beer float! The bartender here used to work in the esteemed Hyde & Seek and he knows his craft well, and it is an easy venue to spend half a night in.
- Ekamai's Best Nightlife: "It is a 5-10 minute walk up Ekamai (Sukhumvit Soi 63) from the Ekamai skytrain station to get here. Look for Park Lane mall on your lefthand side."
