Stockbridge is an affluent suburb of the city of Edinburgh situated to the north of the city center. Once a sleepy village at the outskirts of the city, its cobbled streets, classical architecture and upscale shops, bars and restaurants make it popular with both residents and visitors.
Stockbridge has some delightful cafes and bistros, as well as more formal restaurants. For a fine dining experience head to the Stockbridge Restaurant or Purslane. For a more casual (and less expensive meal) Hamilton’s Bar and Kitchen is a great favorite. You can also sample delicious Italian, Spanish and Thai cuisine here.
Stockbridge has some of Edinburgh’s best traditional pubs, including the delightful Antiquary where you can also enjoy live music at the weekends. You can also sample some delicious cocktails and tempting food at many of the bars. For a really decadent cocktail make for the effortlessly cool Last Word Saloon.
Stockbridge is very popular with foodies. The Stockbridge Market every Sunday has a great selection of artisan food stall and the decidedly decadent French treats at Patiserie Madeleine are famous across the city. You will also find a host of great gift shops such as the delightful Bliss and the wonderful toy shop Toys Galore.
