It comes as a great surprise to many that Salt Lake City has its own breweries – and many excellent ones, at that. Nevertheless, Utah, whose liquor laws have a dubious reputation, stands shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the best beer-making states in the country. One of these breweries, Epic Brewing, just reconfirmed this fact by claiming six medals at the North American Brewers Association's Mountain Brewers Beer Festival.
Taking place in Idaho Falls, Idaho, this competition included more than 100 breweries from around the country. For its Brainless on Cherries, Epic won a gold in the Fruit Beer category. The Utah Sage Saison took another gold in the Herbed/ Spiced beers genre. A strong brew, the Imperial Stout, took gold in its namesake category.
Winning silver was the Double Skull Doppelbock, another high-potency beer, as well as the Brainless Belgian in the Belgian-style Pale category. A bronze medal went to the Straight Up Saison – rounding up Epic's impressive list of awards, especially considering that Epic Brewing was only founded in 2010!
If you want to experience these delightful beers in person, stop by Epic's “Tap-less Tap Room.” There you can purchase soup, salad, cheese boards, paninis and other sandwiches, and sample their beers. Open seven days a week, this State Street eatery is extremely accessible.
