If you're looking for true resort-style hotels, you're going to have to broaden your search beyond the perimeters of Salt Lake City proper. In fact, you're going to find all of the area's prime resort hotels nestled at the bases of – or mid-mountain on – the great ski areas of the Wasatch Mountains.
The town of Park City, just 30 minutes east of Salt Lake International Airport, with its three world-class ski areas, has the single highest concentration of resort hotels in all of Utah. With Deer Valley Resort, Utah's poshest ski and summer resort, The Canyons, and Park City Mountain Resort all within 10 minutes of each other, it's no wonder this vibrant mountain town has an extremely dense collection of top-notch, full-service lodging options. Park City, with its excellent skiing and cool, high-elevation summer temperatures, is an excellent destination in any season.
If you're looking for the same quality of lodging, but in a slightly lower-key atmosphere, consider heading a bit south of Park City to the Swiss-German town of Midway. Though it stands slightly afield Park City's major ski areas, this small town offers beauty and solitude difficult to find elsewhere along the Wasatch Range. Here the Zermatt and Homestead resorts both offer excellent resort amenities in all seasons – and a minimal drive to Deer Valley and Park City.
Those preferring the Wasatch Front (i.e. the Salt Lake City side of this range) will find themselves looking at lodging at the four major ski resorts in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons.
