When you think of Park City, you probably thing of winter sports: skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and the like. While Park City is certainly a popular winter destination for all these reasons, it offers a fair share of summer fun as well. If you want to polish up on your skiing skiils – snow skiing to be exact – then you have to give the ski trick training pool at the Olympic Park a try.Photo courtesy of UtahOlympicLegacy.com
What at first glance appears to be a normal swimming pool is actually a very unique splash pool. If you look up the side of the hill next to the pool, you'll see four individual ramps, where athletes can strap on a pair of skis and master that next jump without the threat of a painful crash.
If you're new to the sport of aerial ski jumping and want to give it a try, Park City's the place to go. From June to September, Olympic Park offers two-hour beginner Freestyle Training Clinics, where participants are equipped with skis, boots, a life jacket and a helmet and taught the fundamentals of the sport. You'll have time to practice your moves on a trampoline before making that first jump off a mini-ramp and into the pool – no previous experience required.Photo courtesy of UtahOlympicLegacy.com
If you're to take your skills to the next level, sign up for a private lesson, complete with an opportunity to jump from a larger ramp on either skis or a snowboard.
For those who'd rather leave the jumping to the pros, Olympians and national team athletes put on a freestyle stunt show every Sunday. You'll get to see athletes at the top of their fields soar up to 60 feet in the air, performing choreographed routines to music and plunging into the splash pool, skis and all.
