Taking top honors two years running, the winner of the Readers' Choice award for Best Ski Resort sits between Truckee and Tahoe City. Skiers and riders enjoy some 6,000 acres of terrain, including 16 bowls, 270 trails and 42 lifts ferrying visitors to the top of the dual resorts, accessible on the same lift ticket.

Best Cross-Country Ski Resort: White Grass Ski Touring Center

Located in West Virginia's snowy Cabin Mountain range, White Grass Ski Touring Center maintains more than 37 miles (60 km) of trails. The center also offers a variety of rentals, guided tours, lessons, a repair shop and a cafe serving wholesome, healthy and natural foods.

Best Ski Town: North Conway

Nestled within the scenic White Mountains of New Hampshire, North Conway sits within a half-hour drive of more than a dozen alpine and Nordic ski resorts. Visitors off the slopes can explore the town's pastel-hued Victorian architecture oozing New England charm. The Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center makes for an excellent rest-day diversion.

Best Après-Ski Bar: The Snorting Elk Cellar

Easily one of the best après-ski spots in the Pacific Northwest, the Snorting Elk Cellar is situated in the cellar of a Bavarian-style lodge near Crystal Mountain. A hot drink menu is complemented by 18 locally-crafted draft beers, all poured next to a warming, roaring fire.

Best Ski Hotel: Hidden Moose Lodge

The slopes of Whitefish Mountain Resort lie just minutes from the front door of Hidden Moose Lodge, a rustic mountain B&B complete with a river rock fireplace, outdoor hot tub and a spacious outdoor deck.
