For the fourth year in a row, the World Travel Awards have singled out Cancun as the leading destination in Mexico and Central America.  Additionally, Cancun also took home top honors for the third year in a row as Mexico and Central America's best beach destination.
Other accolades given by the World Travel awards include the following:
  • Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa as “Mexico’s Leading All-Inclusive Resort” and “Mexico & Central America's Leading Family Resort.”
  • The Cancun Center was recognized as “Mexico & Central America's Leading Meetings & Conference Centre.”
  • Rio Secreto, a popular eco-tour located nearby, which is comprised of an underground river and labyrinth of caves, is “Mexico & Central America's Leading Green Expedition.”
The goal of the World Travel Awards is to encourage excellence in the international travel and tourism industry.  Annual nominations are decided on by industry experts in areas such as customer relations, creativity, quality of service, product innovation, standards and guest satisfaction. The voting process lasts for a year and encourages participation from travel professionals around the globe and was even opened to public participation in 2009.
People from all over the globe travel to Cancun to revel in the sunshine on the soft sand of the beaches, take a dip in the clear blue waters, be pampered at award-winning hotels, savor the delights offered by this foodie destination, see ancient Mayan temples and participate in adventuresome activities.
Several special events and activities are set to take place from now until December 21 that focus on the exploration of Cancun’s culture and heritage and celebrate its rebirth in the year 2012, which ends the traditional Mayan calendar. So, now is the time to start planning your visit; Cancun is the place to be for the celebration of the new era.
