When you have some space to spare, why not use it...right? That might be the logic behind Camp Bucca’s new redesign of a former Iraq prison camp. All you need is a little plumbing and some catering, and voila, the old abandoned US military trailers are turned in turned swanky hotel rooms!

The funny thing is, this particularly interesting feature isn’t really advertised. Most guests so far have been rich oil company execs showing up to talk talks about the insane oil reserve sitting underneath Basra, and they weren’t exactly impressed to arrive at a complex enclosed by barb wire. In fact, they didn't have the slightest idea that their hotel was the site of some grizzly events.

This isn’t a new trend, by any means. However, most other hotels akin to the Iraq prison camp have been simply prisons, like the upscale Liberty Hotel in Boston, or the epic Four Seasons Hotel at Sultanahmet in Istanbul, Turkey.

Heck, even hostels are doing it: the famous HI-Ottawa Jail Hostel used to be the home of many deviants, and is notoriously haunted by the ghosts of troubled souls. There’s also the Prison Hostel in Australia...which really looks nothing like a hostel, and still retains all its prison—er—charm.

A former prison camp, though, that’s unique. Would you stay there?
