    The Country Music Association Music Festival, or CMA Fest, is a 4 day event June 9-12 in Nashville, TN.  Country is hotter than hot.  Over 400 artists draw a crowd of over 250,000 fans from all 50 states and 41 nations.  It's a chance to not only hear great music, but get your favorite star's autograph.  You can catch this event in several locations around Nashville.

    Portland Rose Festival

    The City of Roses, Portland, Oregon, has quite the tradition with their 105-year-old civic event known as the Portland Rose Festival.  The month of June is devoted to over 60 exciting activities, such as an air show, dragon boat races, fireworks, carnival rides and ski races.  But the crown jewel is the Grand Floral Parade (June 9), 2nd largest to the Rose Parade.  Also worth checking out is the City Fair, RoZone (local and national music acts), and Fleet Week (June 6-10).  Navy vessels come in from around the world to celebrate, offering free tours.

    Head to Grant Park in Chicago, IL June 8-10 to hear all the big name blues acts in this largest in the world free blues festival.  Half a million people are in attendance to hear 3 days of incredible artists on 5 stages situated next to the Lake Michigan waterfront.  Past performers have included B.B. King and the late Ray Charles and Bo Diddley.  New up and coming artists are also featured.

    The lakeside village of Akeley, Minnesota, an historical boomtown for logging, has the bragging rights for being the original birthplace of the legendary lumberjack, Paul Bunyon.  June 22-24, come to Paul Bunyon Days, take your picture next to his famous 25 foot statue and enter your mate in the look alike contest.  Festivities include music, games for the kids, a pie social, dances, parades and even a horseshoe tourney.

    Since 1977, Duke University in Durham, NC has been host to the American Dance Festival, originally begun in 1934 by modern dance greats such as Martha Graham and Hanya Holm.  Modern dance students and professionals from all over the world will attend workshops and panel discussions starting June 14 for the 3 and 6 week programs.  Audience goers can see new works premiered by the best up and coming choreographers, along with performances by the top professional modern companies.
