Eight Bucket List Travel Experiences

  • Jinshanling-Simatai stretch of the Great Wall

    The Great Wall

What can we say? It seems obvious to include the Great Wall in such a list–but it's so obvious that it would be a sin not to include it. Check out the North Pass for one of the wider sections of the wall, and one that was most tactically critical in the defense of Beijing.

  • The ruins of Machu Picchu on the Inca Trail

    Machu Picchu

This is without question the most prominent icon of the Inca world. Machu Picchu, because of its elevation, was more or less hidden from the Spanish during their conquest, and as such it's one of the most intact cultural sites in the world.

  • Santorini at dusk

    Greek Isles

Easily one of the best ways to tap into antiquity, the Greek Isles should be on every traveler's bucket list. The Cyclades islands (which include Mykonos and Santorini, easily the most popular destinations) are the most well-known and are easily accessible by ferry.

  • Whitewater rafting in New Zealand

    New Zealand

New Zealand as a whole should be on every traveler's bucket list–some of the most breathtaking and unspoiled landscapes in the world can be found here. Rafting in particular is a must-do while visiting NZ; pay a visit to the southern end of Lake Taupo (New Zealand's biggest lake) for some of the best rafting on the planet.

  • Elephant trekking through the central highlands of Vietnam

It may come as a surprise, but Vietnam is a spectacular travel destination. In particular, taking an elephant ride through the country's central highlands is one of the best ways to experience Vietnam.

  • Sea turtle at the Great Barrier Reef, Australia

    Great Barrier Reef

Just off the coast of Queensland in northern Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms. One of the seven natural wonders of the world, it's a must-see for any traveler.
