Best Campground (2022)

This RV park just minutes outside Nevada City, California, has 15 RV sites, some with full hookups and others with water and electric only. Each site has its own picnic table. Other campground amenities include barbecues and a swimming pool.

Imagination Mountain Campground Resort is located in the beautiful Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Tent camping is available on streamside pads with electricity and water or on off-stream primitive sites with no utilities. Among its amenities, the campground includes daily trash pick-up, mountain stream fishing, and crafts and games for the kids.

Bar Harbor/Oceanside KOA Holiday campground offers premium tent sites near the water's edge at its facility in Maine. Water and electricity are provided onsite, and other amenities include WiFi hot spots, bathhouses and laundry facilities. Fresh lobsters are cooked at the campground daily!

This Ohio KOA campground occupies 100 acres (40 of them wooded) with its own 5-acre stocked fishing pond. Guests enjoy access to a dog park, swimming pool, wifi, basketball court and workout room. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent.

This year-round campground at Gulf Islands National Seashore is easily accessible to Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. There are 52 sites for RVs or tents with picnic tables, hookups for water and electricity, and a fire ring or grill. Modern restrooms with hot showers and a dump station are also on-site, and a boat ramp is nearby. 10Best Travel Expert Chez Chesak recommends, “You can also set off for a walk along the Davis Bayou Trail, which takes hikers through a coastal forest and over two local bayous. If you’re lucky, you can spot alligators and other reptiles.”

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort caters to RV and tent campers with this 750-acre campground shaded by pine and cypress trees. Each campsite has water, cable and electric hookups, as well as picnic tables and charcoal grills. Some sites have sewer hookups as well. Guests have access to a swimming pool and waterslide and splash pad.

Recognized as the 2017 KOA Campground of the Year, this complex near Montana’s Glacier National Park can handle RVs up to 75 feet in length. It boasts camping cabins and tent sites, restrooms and showers, a playground with a basketball court, grocery and laundry facilities, two pools and two hot tubs, a dog park, and an espresso bar and ice cream shop. The campground also hosts weekly campground activities, from outdoor recreation seminars to live music. The pavilion lodge contains satellite televisions and an internet cafe.

Colter Bay Campground in Wyoming’s 310,000-acre Grand Teton National Park includes 324 individual campsites, ten large group sites, and thirteen ADA-accessible sites for tents and dry RV camping. Each site has a picnic table, a fire pit, and access to nearby water spigots, flush toilets, and laundry and showers. Located on the shores of beautiful Jackson Lake, the campground is near a wide range of lake activities, plus hiking and horseback riding.

Platte River Campground is located within walking distance of both the river and the beaches of Lake Michigan, within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on the lower peninsula of Michigan. Each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table, with restrooms and showers available in each camp section. For more primitive campers, the White Pine "backcountry" campground is available on a nearby trail.
