The state of Mississippi leads the country in catfish production – the leading aquaculture industry in the nation – so it's no surprise that this moist, sweet and mild fish makes an appearance between slices of bread across the state. At most Mississippi catfish joints, the fish is battered, fried and served as a po'boy on a hoagie or flaky French bread, but it can also come blacked or grilled, often with cajun seasoning.
10Best and Sandwich America wanted to find the best catfish sandwich in the state, and to do so, 10Best editors joined forces with local Mississippi food writers and The Food Channel to nominate 20 worthy restaurants across the state. For the past four weeks, USA TODAY and 10Best readers have been voting for their favorites.
The top 10 winners in the category Best Catfish Sandwich in Mississippi are as follows:
- Signa's Grille - Ridgeland
- Restaurant Tyler - Starkville
- Gino's Hamburgers & Catfish - Greenville
- Abe's Grill - Corinth
- Saltine - Jackson
- B.B.'s Poboys & Seafood - Ocean Springs
- The Crown Restaurant - Indianola
- Chunky Shoals Fish Camp - Chunky
- Ajax Diner - Oxford
- Woody's Tupelo Steakhouse - Tupelo
Congratulations to all these winning restaurants!
