Ona Restaurant & Lounge wins big for their Dungeness crab

Crab cakes a popular menu item at winning Yachats restaurant

In Oregon, much of the seafood served at restaurants across the state is pulled directly from the ocean, including a local favorite: Dungeness crab. Crab season typically lasts from December to August, but succulent and sweet crab meat features on menus throughout the year. It’s often served simply with drawn butter for dipping, or pulled as a crab cocktail. You might find it tucked between bread slices in a melt sandwich, or in the form of a seasoned crab cake.

    A highlight on the menu at Portland’s popular Southpark Seafood is the whole Oregon Dungeness crab, served simply with chili lime butter and focaccia. Dungeness crab also features on the restaurants impressive chilled seafood tower, along with fresh oysters, salmon tartare, smoked bay scallops and jumbo prawns.

    At Clearwater Restaurant, local crab takes the form of irresistible comfort food in dishes like Dungeness crab mac and cheese with truffle oil and a three cheese blend, or crab and garlic soba noodles with scallions, parmesan and soba sauce.

Dungeness crab makes its appearance in a seafood cocktail, crab cakes, a crab po’boy and a Brazilian-style seafood stew.

    Dungeness crab features heavily on the menu at this Newport seafood joint. Traditional dishes, like crab cocktail and crab cakes, are joined by more unique offerings, such as seafood fondue with fresh Dungeness crab, a Dungeness crab and shrimp stuffed avocado or a seafood sauté.

    Guests at Tony’s Crab Shack have plenty of ways to indulge, from local crab served whole with hot lemon and butter to Dungeness crab cakes served with tartar sauce and lemon. The Dungeness crab cocktail features a quarter pound of meat, served with lemon and cocktail sauce on the side.
