Since the first escape room opened in Japan in 2008, the escape room craze has taken the world by storm. Today, there are thousands of these physical adventure games around the globe.

    Sacramento-based Enchambered operates three different escape rooms. Containment Breach challenges players to solve the mystery of a locked laboratory where a teleportation experiment went terribly wrong. In The Whispering Halls, players enter a Victorian manor with a paranormal problem, while the Skull Witch traps visitors in a cabin deep in the swamp with only 60 minutes to escape.

  • Decode Detroit

    Decode Detroit
    Ann Arbor, Mich.

    The three rooms at Decode Detroit in Ann Arbor follow the story of Minerva, a sassy artificial intelligence. Players must choose whether to help her escape or work against her to keep her locked in her motherboard. Decode Detroit also has locations in Ypsilanti and (soon) Detroit.

    Boston

    Players at Boxaroo in Boston have two escape scenarios to choose from. Investigate a museum gone amiss to rescue lost art in the Conundrum Museum, or examine the study of a legendary magician to uncover the secrets of his magic before time runs out.

    Chicago

    At 60 to Escape in Chicago, escape room enthusiasts will find a series of well-balanced and fun games, like Blast from the Past, where you and your team have to investigate the disappearance of a local arcade owner, or Museum, a heist game where players are tasked with scoring a billion-dollar artifact.

    Clue Carré, one of the first live escape games in New Orleans, shines with an immersive sense of place, whether you’re searching for Marie Laveau’s love potion in The Voodoo Room, banishing ghosts in the Haunted Swamp, infiltrating a secret crypt in Vampire Hunter or snatching the King’s Crown in The Carnival Heist.

    New Mexico Escape Room
    Albuquerque

    Escaping the rooms at New Mexico Escape Room in Albuquerque offers a cinematic experience, complete with immersive sets and plenty of special effects. There are six scenarios to choose from; face off with a mob boss in Bombshell, contend with ghosts in Blackwell Manor, escape from Nefertari’s Tomb, uncover the identity of a serial killer in The Cabin, dig through your grandmother’s estate in The Family Jewel or recover some important misplaced items in Duel at Dusk.

    San Diego’s largest escape room facility offers four different scenarios. Return to the roaring twenties in The Speakeasy and The Speakeasy Nouveau, uncover a drug operation in guest favorite Chinatown, or try to pull off a robbery at The Diner in less than an hour.

  • Strange Bird Immersive

    Strange Bird Immersive

    This immersive escape game experience is part escape room, part immersive theater. The show lasts 90 minutes to two hours and includes puzzles inspired by games like Myst and The Room. The room recently relocated to a larger facility, complete with professional actors, responsive lighting and sound effects, and custom sets.

    With locations throughout the Los Angeles area, 60OUT has over two dozen games to choose from. Enter a bizarre trance to bring color back to the world in Zen Room, get sucked into a classic children’s book in the cinematic Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, or take a deep dive down the rabbit hole with fan-favorite Alice in Wonderland.

    Doldrick's Escape Room prides themselves on providing live action escape experiences that are high tech, fully immersive and always private. Rooms include The Super Bomb Squad: Commandos Awesome on a mission to deactivate an explosive, nautical nonsense in Captain Spoopy Bones and the Magnificent Quest for Some Other Pirate’s Treasure and Red Sled Redemption at the Holly Jolly Holiday Hubcap Repair where Santa’s sleigh needs some work.
