Vote for Pimlico Race Course
USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards
Best Horse Racing Track
Pimlico Race Course is one of the oldest racetracks in America, having opened in 1870. It's the home of the Preakness Stakes, which is the second leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing in the U.S. Still known as "Old Hilltop," nicknamed for the hill that was once located in the infield, a popular spot for watching the races (but removed in 1938), the infield still draws huge crowds of fans to take in the races. Preakness Day is in May, when fans don their favorite hats and fascinators and flock to that prestigious race at this storied track just outside of Baltimore.
